I want to be able to meet up with these standards. My parents have this vision for me, and I have accepted it as my own. I truly want to be a woman who honors God in all that I do. War implies soldiers; and soldiers must be carefully trained to their profession. They must be strong, swift, and brave. High-spirited, but gentle.
Amy Carmichael As soldiers in God's army we must be constantly ready to do the will of God. In this, we must have the strength to fight our own emotions, the swiftness to say "no" to our own will, and the bravery to know and trust that He knows what is best. I need to be excited for this, yet as gentle as a dove in carrying it out. This was my quiet time thought for the day. martyr-(<from the Greek word "witness")
1) One who chooses to suffer death rather that to deny Jesus Christ or His work. 2) One who bears testimony to the truth of what he has seen or heard or knows, as in a witness in a court of justice. 3)One who sacrifices something very important to further the kingdom of God. 4) One who endures severe or constant suffering for their Christian witness. 5) A Jesus Freak Page 15 of Jesus Freaks by dc Talk Am I willing to have kids look at me across the cafeteria and whisper, "Hey, that girl is the Jesus Freak. "? I think I could live with that. Even a more important question: am I willing to have no friends? Maybe that would be a bit harder, but yeah. Am I willing to be rejected by my family? Ummmmm...maybe? Now here is the kicker: am I willing to die? Am I willing to be tortured? These are the questions that run through my head as I read this. Being a martyr sounds really cool, but the martyrs are not only the ones who die through torture. If I don't die by being tortured, I want to die every day and be a daily martyr. I want to learn to give my life away wherever I am. I want to be called a good and faithful servant. I want to have a crazy desire for God to fill my life. I want to be "One who bears testimony to the truth of what he has seen or heard or knows, as in a witness...One who sacrifices something very important to further the kingdom of God." I want to be able to give my life in the blink of an eye. If I don't have this willingness, I might deny my faith like Peter. Peter didn't prepare himself, and I don't want to end up in that spot-unprepared and scared. Three Things to Remember
Remember, three things come not back. An arrow sent upon its track. It will not swerve, it will not stay Its speed; it flies to wound or slay. The spoken word so soon forgot By thee; but it has perished not. In others hearts 'tis living still' And doing work for good or ill. And the lost opportunity, That cometh back no more to thee; In vain thou weepest, in vain dost yearn; These three will never more return. - an Arabic Motto An arrow, a word, an opportunity. This poem puts me in a spot where I can see that time does not wait or go backwards. What is done is done. There is nothing I can do about it. So live today as your last, for time won't come back to let you fix things. It constantly ticks forward. We can apologize for a word but an opportunity? It just might be gone forever. Too often we underestimate the power of touch, a smile, a kind work, a listening ear, a honest complement, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential of turning a life around.
Hi! Sorry I've been lazy. So this quote came from one of my older jounals, so I don't know where I read it. Anyway, my basic thought was this: you don't know the impact you can have by just simply doing a small act of kindness. The things listed above can impact not only your relationship with your friends, but it can also impact the person who walks past your house towards the bus stop every day. You have no idea where a person is coming from or going to but, you can impact their life by just commuticating that you care. It's enough. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born into eternal life. - St. Francis of Assisi I've adopted this to be my mission statement. I think this is pretty self explanatory. Jacob limped because his hip was sore.
God was sore because Jacob tried to be hip without Him. Today, we think we must be hip to soar, And we are sore at those who are not hip. Yet, God's message remains the same-- If we're truly hip to Him, we soar, If not, we become sore from trying to be hip without him. Well, truly, one reason I posted this is because it made me laugh. :-) Another reason is that this world tries to be hip without God. If I try to be "hip" or cool without God I will be robbed of my joy. If I follow His will, I will soar and prosper in God's plan. Something to think about... People who say that a Christian's life should be perfect are mistaken. God doesn't promise to make life trouble-free. He only promises to walk with you throughout the trouble.
-A Daily Teen's Prayer Journal Isn't this quote so true? Everyone thinks a Christian's lifestyle is so easy, but the Bible never said, "When you believe, your life is trouble free!" It only said we will be free from sin's curse on us and we have the gift of eternal life. So, even when trouble does come around the corner, God has promised to NEVER leave us or forsake us.He will never break His promise. Licensed-to do thy neighbor harm;
Licensed-to kindle hate and strife, Licensed-to nerve the robber's arm; Licensed-to whet the murders knife. Licensed-like a spider for a fly, To spread thy nets for man,thy prey; To mock his struggles, crush his soul, Then cast his worthless form away. William McGuffey Sorry I haven't posted in nine days. . . so what this quote is talking about is liquor, but I was talking to a friend and I noticed it has a lot to do with this world.The world wants to make you think that you are the most important person on the face of the planet. With this look on life this quote becomes reality: everybody owes you something and if they don't pay up you make them pay. But the thing it doesn't tell you is that it will eat up your life. You will run for a while, trying to be the best, and eventually you just die. The world spits you out and then goes and finds an new victim. God wants you to realize that He is the purpose in life. He won't just let you die. If He is your life this quote doesn't apply to you , and you are a special person whom He has chosen to do special things. It's a promise! |
